چکیده

The release of colloids to groundwater was investigated in situ in an ironoxyhydroxide-rich, sandy aquifer. Groundwater amended with various solutes was injected into and immediately withdrawn from the shallow aquifer. Turbidity and colloid composition were monitored in the retrieved injectate. The response of the aquifer material to the amendments generally mimicked that observed in an earlier study using packed columns containing the sediment, demonstrating the viability of the single-well method for testing colloid mobilization in situ. The decline of turbidity in the retrieved injectates with increasing withdrawal volume was analyzed to determine a “reaction order” n, describing the redeposition of mobilized colloids to the immobile matrix. Differences in the reaction order for the amendments tested presumably indicated the effectiveness of these amendments to generate repulsive colloid-immobile matrix interactions.

تحلیل فضایی مخاطرات طبیعی ناشی از برداشت بی‌رویه آب زیرزمینی در آبخوان ساحلی ارومیه

Coastal aquifers comparing noncoastal aquifers, are faced to natural hazards more rapidly due to incorrect managements (Bear et al. 1999). Aquifer’s vulnerability to various pollutants or intrusion of saline water to coastal aquifers have been studied by several researchers so far (Chachadi et al., 2002 Cardona et al., 2004). Overlay models are produced to overlay physical indicator maps ...

Saltwater intrusion vulnerability assessment using AHP-GALDIT model in Kashan plain aquifer as critical aquifer in a semi-arid region

Owing to population growth and water demand, coastal aquifers all over the world are over–pumped, resulting in serious problems such as saltwater intrusion. So, in these conditions, assessing the groundwater system’s vulnerability and finding areas with saltwater intrusion potential are vital for the better management of aquifers. In this study, AHP-GALDIT was applied to saltwater intrusion vul...

Effect of solution chemistry on clay colloid release from an iron oxide-coated aquifer sand.

This research compared the influence of (1) dissolution of iron oxides and (2) alteration of electrostatic interactions on the mobilization of colloids in a clayand iron oxidecoated sand obtained from an Atlantic Coastal Plain aquifer in which colloids have been found suspended only in anoxic groundwater. The sediment was flushed with solutions of varying ionic strength, pH, and reductant and s...

A study of the relationship between the exploitation and subsidence of Salmas

Salmas plain is located at the west of Uremia lake and at the 75 km of north of Uremia city. The main river of the plain, called Zulachai, is drained into Uremia Lake. Salmas aquifer is one of the coastal aquifers of Uremia Lake and has hydraulic connection with the lake. The recent draught occurrences and increased water consumption in agriculture and drinking sections water have not only caus...

Assessment of Saltwater Pollution in Azarshahr Plain Groundwater, Iran: Conjugating GALDIT Method and Geostatistics

Overutilization of groundwater resources can put their quality under stress. It could be base on rapid declination in groundwater level leading to salt water intrusion in the coastal aquifers. The objective of this study was to map the vulnerability of salt water intrusion of the Urmia Lake, Iran to nearby coastal aquifer (Azarshahr) using GALDIT method. The GALDIT index based on six parameters...
